“How did the Warrior Collective come about?”
Good question! Growing up for me, there was no internet, no google, no blogs and no reliable source of up to date information on Martial Arts, save that which you could find in any of the few magazines dedicated to this subject being published at that time.
This always made me wonder about what it was like to train in different Martial Arts schools or gyms around the world and what it was like to learn from the top instructors in their field. This led me to think just how cool it would be to go around and find out for myself.
Thus, the seeds of the Warrior Collective were sown. Fast forward to present day and society now has the internet (hurrah), more affordable/easier to use tech (another hurrah) and I am now a full grown adult (booooo, but at least it is just on the outside as my wife likes to keep reminding me) with the ability to not have to go to school any more.
Having been involved with all sides of the Martial Arts for over two decades (training, competing and coaching), I knew there were certain issues faced time and time again. Where are the great coaches/gyms? What is a good resource to aid me in my Martial Arts Training? As a coach/school owner, how can I let people know how good we are without cost?
I wanted to go out and visit as many great gyms, fighters and instructors as I could to see where they taught, experienced their view points on training and get to meet them in person. This I knew though, would make for an excellent blog / resource!
Great for those wanting professionally filmed, legitimately brilliant tutorials regularly for their own training or even coaching. I also knew it would be a massive help to gyms and the people that ran them, giving them as much free publicity and promotion as I could possibly aid them with.
Now that I have had the genuine pleasure and honour of visiting so many around the world, I have added more variety to the content I put out. This now includes reviews (on equipment, supplements and whatever other great Martial Arts related items I can get my hands on), articles (I have a frustrated writer in me so apologies in advance for this one), awards, competitions and much, much more.
A little about me
Well, so as not to bore you too much, here is as much of a condensed version as I can manage;
I am hurtling towards my forties at present, which I am not entirely thrilled about but I am doing my best to keep the old body ticking over. I currently spend whatever time I can manage training in Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling, Kickboxing and Yoga. I also like my S&C sessions a lot!!
I still regularly coach others at the gym that I own, mainly in striking but also in other aspects as well, dependent on the system/class. I love teaching and helping others learn, it has always been as much a passion for me as the actual training itself. I enjoy working with both children and adults on the mats or in the ring.
I don’t eat meat or fish and have been vegetarian (with a preferred preference for Vegan) for a long time now. I do this from both a health and moral point of view. I am married with two great children.
I am one of life’s obsessive characters, if I see something that inspires me, I want to get really into it!! Hence why I now have a whole heap of passions alongside my love affair with the Martial Arts including blogging, photography, videography, film making and many another thing I struggle to find the time for….
My wife (if you are married I am sure you will understand why she takes up such presence in my writing) likes to call me socially awkward and only interested in conversation if it revolves around Martial Arts (or one of my other foibles as listed above).
I am not going to argue with her, she is a great judge of character (she married me didn’t she) and knows me better than anyone! However, that means if you share my interest in Martial Arts, we are no doubt going to get along like a house on FIRE and become firm friends in the process!
I really hope you enjoy this blog and all that I do with the Warrior Collective, it really is a work of pure passion and my absolute pleasure to run!!!
