Elite Wrestling for BJJ and MMA instructional with Lyubo Kumbarov

Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA with Lyubo Kumbarov

Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA is the first full-length Warrior Collective instructional filmed with world-class Wrestling coach Lyubo Kumbarov, introducing his systematic approach to Wrestling for BJJ and MMA.

Rather than teaching Wrestling as a separate sport, Lyubo shows how its principles, controls and attacking systems can be adapted specifically for the realities of BJJ and MMA.

Across the instructional, he breaks down the Front Headlock, Wrestling Cradle, Takedowns to the Cradle, Leg Lacing, Over/Under Wrestling, Chain Wrestling, Turtle Attacks, Back Takes and methods for countering common Takedown defence.

The result is not simply a collection of Takedowns.

It is an introduction to a different way of controlling Grappling exchanges.

Learn Wrestling for BJJ and MMA with Lyubo Kumbarov

Lyubo Kumbarov is a four-time Bulgarian National Wrestling Champion, former Bulgarian National Team wrestler and product of Bulgaria's renowned CSKA sports-school system.

Growing up within the Bulgarian Wrestling system gave Lyubo an extensive foundation in European Wrestling before his career subsequently took him to the United States, where he competed in the American collegiate system at Colby Community College.

That combination has helped shape the coach he subsequently became.

After relocating to the UK, Lyubo established himself as one of the most sought-after Wrestling coaches working within BJJ, Grappling and MMA. He became a Wrestling coach at the world-renowned Roger Gracie Academy in London and has worked with everyone from developing students through to elite BJJ competitors and professional fighters.

What makes Lyubo particularly relevant to BJJ and MMA isn't simply his Wrestling pedigree.

It's his understanding of how Wrestling has to change when it is applied to other Grappling sports.

A position that makes sense under Wrestling rules doesn't automatically make sense when submissions, guard attacks, back exposure or strikes become part of the equation.

Lyubo understands that distinction.

His coaching takes the pressure, positional control, balance, hand fighting, chaining and relentless attacking mentality of high-level Wrestling and adapts it specifically for people who need to use those skills in BJJ, No-Gi Grappling and MMA.

That approach has made his coaching highly sought after and his Warrior Collective videos some of the most consistently popular Wrestling content we have ever published.

Wrestling That Actually Transfers to BJJ & MMA

One of the biggest mistakes Grapplers make when trying to improve their Wrestling is thinking exclusively about Takedowns.

Get a better Double Leg.

Learn another Single Leg finish.

Add another throw.

Those things matter, but Wrestling can add far more to your Grappling than simply deciding how the fight reaches the floor.

Lyubo looks at Wrestling as a connected system.

How do you control the head?

How do you make an opponent carry your weight?

What happens when the first Takedown is defended?

How do you connect one attack to another?

How can you turn Turtle into a position from which you attack rather than allowing your opponent to recover?

How do you use a Cradle to control somebody who wants to scramble?

How can Wrestling rides, pressure and controls create opportunities to take the back or submit an opponent?

Those questions sit at the heart of this instructional.

The Front Headlock System

The Front Headlock is one of the most important crossover positions between Wrestling, BJJ and MMA.

Lyubo breaks down how he uses the position to control an opponent rather than immediately rushing to finish.

You'll learn the details that make the Front Headlock difficult to escape, how to apply Wrestling-specific pressure and how to turn control into attacks and choke opportunities.

For BJJ and No-Gi practitioners in particular, this gives you a systematic way of attacking one of the positions that occurs repeatedly during Takedown exchanges, scrambles and Turtle situations.

Build a Wrestling Cradle That Grapplers Hate

The Wrestling Cradle is another position that translates exceptionally well into submission Grappling when you understand how to use it.

Lyubo explains the mechanics of controlling an opponent with the Cradle before showing how to connect specific Takedowns directly into it.

Rather than thinking:

Takedown → reset → start Grappling

you begin thinking:

Takedown → control → pressure → next attack.

That distinction runs throughout Lyubo's approach.

Who Is Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA For?

This instructional isn't only for wrestlers.

In many ways, the people who will gain the most from it are those who didn't grow up Wrestling.

It is ideal for:

  • BJJ and No-Gi practitioners who want to become considerably harder to control in standing and transitional exchanges

  • MMA fighters who need Wrestling that connects naturally with Grappling

  • Wrestlers learning how to adapt their existing skills to BJJ or MMA

  • Grapplers who want better Front Headlock, Turtle and Cradle systems

  • Competitors who struggle when their first Takedown attempt is defended

  • BJJ, MMA and Grappling coaches looking for a structured way to introduce more Wrestling into their own classes

That final group is particularly important.

Lyubo doesn't just demonstrate techniques exceptionally well. His material provides coaches with positions, progressions, concepts and drills that can be taken back into the gym and developed with students over time.

If you coach BJJ or MMA but don't come from a strong Wrestling background yourself, studying Lyubo's approach can significantly expand the Wrestling content you're able to teach.

The Over/Under Clinch in Wrestling

The Lyubo Kumbarov Wrestling System

Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA was the first full-length instructional we filmed with Lyubo.

It didn't remain a standalone course.

Over subsequent filming projects, Lyubo's Warrior Collective material has developed into five connected volumes covering Wrestling for BJJ and MMA from fundamental principles through to advanced clinch, ground-control and Chain Wrestling systems.

Together they provide one of the most extensive Wrestling learning paths available on Warrior Collective.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA suitable for BJJ practitioners?

Yes. This instructional is specifically designed to show how Wrestling can be applied within BJJ and No-Gi Grappling rather than simply teaching freestyle Wrestling as a separate sport.

Lyubo covers positions that regularly occur in Grappling, including the Front Headlock, Over/Under clinch, Turtle, Cradle and Takedown exchanges. He also shows how to connect Wrestling control with back takes, chokes, pressure and positional dominance.

For BJJ practitioners who have spent considerably more time developing their ground game than their Wrestling, the volume can introduce an entirely different approach to controlling transitional positions.

Is this Wrestling instructional useful for MMA fighters?

Yes. Lyubo's approach is particularly relevant to MMA because it focuses on controlling opponents, chaining attacks and continuing to work when the first Takedown is defended.

The Front Headlock, Over/Under clinch, Cradle, Turtle attacks, Wrestling rides and Takedown combinations covered in the course all have direct applications within MMA.

Rather than viewing the Takedown as the end of the exchange, Lyubo teaches you to connect standing Wrestling, Takedowns, control and ground positions together.

Do I need previous Wrestling experience to learn from this course?

No, although this isn't primarily intended as a basic introduction to Wrestling.

Lyubo explains the mechanics and concepts behind the techniques in detail, so BJJ and MMA practitioners without an extensive Wrestling background can still learn from the instructional.

However, if you are completely new to Wrestling, we recommend beginning with The Blueprint for Killer Wrestling in BJJ & MMA. That volume establishes Lyubo's fundamental Wrestling principles, stance, clinching, Single Legs, Double Legs, Takedown defence and positional control before progressing into the more specialised systems contained in Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA.

Is this course suitable for experienced wrestlers?

Yes. Experienced wrestlers may already recognise some of the positions, but one of the main values of the course is learning how Lyubo adapts Wrestling specifically for BJJ, No-Gi Grappling and MMA.

The presence of submissions, Guard, prolonged ground exchanges and different rules changes how traditional Wrestling positions can be used. Lyubo explores those connections rather than simply demonstrating conventional Wrestling techniques in isolation.

Is Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA useful for coaches?

Absolutely. This is one of the main reasons we recommend Lyubo Kumbarov's instructional series to BJJ, MMA and Grappling coaches.

The course provides systems and progressions around the Front Headlock, Cradle, Leg Lacing, Over/Under position, Chain Wrestling and Turtle that can be developed into drills and incorporated into regular classes.

It is particularly useful for BJJ or MMA coaches who want to introduce more Wrestling into their programme but don't come from an extensive competitive Wrestling background themselves.

What techniques and positions are covered?

Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA includes Lyubo's systems for the Front Headlock, choke variations, Wrestling Cradle, Takedowns into the Cradle, Leg Laces, advanced Leg Lacing, Over/Under Wrestling, Takedown combinations, Chain Wrestling, attacking Turtle, the Monkey Jump, Wrestling rides and countering Takedown defence.

The emphasis throughout is not simply on learning individual techniques, but understanding how different Wrestling positions and attacks connect together.

Will this help me improve my Takedowns?

Yes, but this isn't simply a Takedown instructional.

Lyubo teaches Takedown combinations and ways to deal with common defensive reactions, but the course also explores what happens around and after the Takedown.

That includes Front Headlock control, Cradles, Leg Laces, Turtle attacks, Wrestling rides and transitions towards dominant positions.

If your only goal is learning basic Single and Double Leg mechanics, start with The Blueprint for Killer Wrestling in BJJ & MMA. If you want to develop a broader Wrestling game that connects Takedowns with control and Grappling, Elite Wrestling takes that process considerably further.

What is Chain Wrestling and why is it important for BJJ and MMA?

Chain Wrestling means connecting attacks together rather than relying on a single Takedown succeeding.

Good Grapplers and MMA fighters will defend your first attack. Lyubo teaches you to recognise those defensive reactions and move into the next available Takedown, control or position.

This is particularly important in BJJ and MMA because opponents are rarely static. Being able to transition between attacks can make your Wrestling considerably harder to shut down.

What is the best order to watch Lyubo Kumbarov's Warrior Collective instructionals?

For the most structured learning progression, we recommend:

1. The Blueprint for Killer Wrestling in BJJ & MMA
Build the fundamentals of Lyubo's Wrestling system.

2. Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA
Develop Front Headlocks, Cradles, Leg Laces, Over/Under Wrestling, Chain Wrestling and Turtle attacks.

3. Dominating the Ground with Wrestling for BJJ & MMA
Develop Wrestling rides, pressure, ground control, Guard killing and methods for controlling and attacking experienced Grapplers.

4. Advanced Wrestling for BJJ & MMA – The Wave Principle
Explore advanced pressure, Underhooks, Fireman's Carry systems, Chain Wrestling and Lyubo's Wave Principle.

5. Dominating the Clinch – Wrestling for BJJ & MMA
Build a comprehensive clinch Wrestling system incorporating Tie-Ups, Russian Ties, Over/Unders, Double Unders, Snap Downs, throws, Suplexes and back attacks.

You don't have to own all five volumes to benefit from this course, but together they form Lyubo Kumbarov's complete Wrestling for BJJ & MMA learning pathway on Warrior Collective.

Who is Lyubo Kumbarov?

Lyubo Kumbarov is a four-time Bulgarian National Wrestling Champion and a product of Bulgaria's renowned CSKA sports-school system. He has competed internationally and in the American collegiate Wrestling system before establishing himself as a highly respected Wrestling coach working extensively with BJJ practitioners, Grapplers and MMA fighters.

What makes Lyubo particularly valuable as a coach is his ability to take high-level Wrestling knowledge and adapt it to the different demands of BJJ, No-Gi Grappling and MMA.

His Warrior Collective instructionals focus not simply on learning more Wrestling techniques, but on developing systems for controlling positions, connecting attacks and making Wrestling function as part of a complete Grappling game.

Don't Just Learn More Takedowns. Build a Wrestling Game.

That is ultimately what separates Lyubo Kumbarov's Warrior Collective series from simply watching disconnected Wrestling techniques online.

Across five volumes, you're learning from a coach who has spent his life in Wrestling but has also spent years solving a very specific problem:

How do you make elite Wrestling work for BJJ and MMA?

Elite Wrestling for BJJ & MMA was where that journey started on Warrior Collective.

If your Wrestling is a weakness, it provides a route into positions and concepts you may never have properly studied.

If you're already an experienced Grappler, it can change how you think about control, pressure, chaining attacks and transitional positions.

And if you're a coach, it gives you material you can continue exploring, drilling and teaching long after you've finished watching the instructional.
